Thanks for doing this. It’s my first time hearing it. My name is Les Walker and I knew and played with the ‘Reid-Man’, as I use to call him going back to our college days at Adelphi. My wife, Quan who did the art work on Steve’s first recording for his Mustevic Sound label (“Rhythmatism”), had a sister who died of cancer around the same time as Steve, so I was not able to get back to NYC for his funeral;(we moved to the San Francisco Bay Area back in the mid-70′s). But I did get a chance to communicate with reed man, Joe Rigby who attended and played there. Also, I had connected with bassist, David Wertman just before Steve’s passing. Joe had contacted me wondering if I had heard anything from Steve since he returned to the States. I hadn’t, but said I would connect with David who might have heard from him. David, in turn contacted Steve’s partner in Switzerland and that’s when we all discovered he had moved on to the ‘other side’. Truly a devastating loss! Please let me know if any other ‘happenings’ in honor of Steve are being planned. It’s important to keep his spirit alive. Thankfully, we have a lot of his music on records and cd’s to remind us of his contribution to the art form. I also have additional recordings of things we did together, ‘back in the day’ to keep my heart warm and nourished!
