A word from GP – Steve Reid & The Charity Dinner

December 5, 2011

‘As I listen to the new Gregory Porter single I remember Steve Reid both artists of the classic tradition and open to the challenges of tomorrow. Sadly Steve passed away in 2010.  I was so inspired and encouraged by Steve that I decided to form the Steve Reid Foundation in order to celebrate his input  to music as well as to make more people aware of musicians in need.  Next year I intend to arrange a ‘drumathon’ in his honour – to be performed and filmed at the ‘new Brownswood’ studio in March 2012.  Meanwhile, a version of  ‘Lions of Judah’ has been recorded by emanative and Ahmed Abdullah and will be released in December – vinyl only and weighing heavy – of which all proceeds will go into the charity. To celebrate this release I’ve chosen my favourite local to serve up a Xmas special menu – and asked Zara Mc Farlane to perform a yuletide set. I hope you can join me for this unique event on December 12th.’
