Brownswood Bubblers Five // fLako

March 17, 2010

So Brownswood Bubblers Five is out now in your friendly neighbourhood record store and of course online at the Brownswood Store or from Flako & Dirg Gerner - Brownswood Bubblers, Vol. 5 (Compiled by Gilles Peterson). We’ve been profiling a few of the artists who feature on the album (Ron Basejam, Electric Wire Hustle, Shuanise and Daru & Rena) and here’s another one – a young man who goes by the name of fLako who seems to have way more than his fair share of exquisitely bumpy, soulful hip hop jams under his belt. Keep an eye on this dude – he’s coming up fast.

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself please. Who are you, where are you from etc.?
My names is fLako. I’ve got roots in Chile and have been living in Berlin for the last 8 years. Now I reside in London.

How would you describe your music?
Hmmm I like headnod shit or a similar feeling.

Where do you draw your inspiration?
I am still sampling a lot from old records. I love to find gems in the 99p boxes. You can always find one sample on them. I love to play around with my MPC to lay down a basis. Of course my fam is my back and you inspire me too and the sun and the wind blablabla…

What albums/releases/gigs are out there or coming soon?
I will probably start to work on my debut album soon. Anyone interested? I just started working on a project with Amenta. We’ll see where it takes us. I recently did some remixes for Robot Koch (HHV / Project Mooncircle) and AEED (Error Broadcast). Gigwise, I’ve got dates coming up on 03/04 at Satta in Lithuania, 30/04 at Kassablanca in Jena (Germany) and 18/06 in Linz (Austria).

Do you have a current DJ mix or any tracks that are available for free download right now that we could point folks to?
I did the Worldwide Family Mixtape for Gilles’ international radio show a few weeks ago. You can check it out over HERE. And I did a mix for Lefto’s show in Brussels. Look for free treats on You will find a lot of free fLako music there. Including a beattape (First Space Shit On The Moon), a little project with an MC called Noir and some other collaborations with Robot Koch, Miki Vale, Mike Tibbert, Amenta etc.
