Brownswood Bubblers Nine // Troumaca

December 12, 2012

“Brownswood Bubblers provides a platform for unsung heroes and emerging talent from the Worldwide underground. The series distils the stream of exciting new artists that have become semi-permanent fixtures in Gilles’ playlists and DJ sets of late to create a suite of perfect bumps.” GP

Gilles comes correct yet again with the ninth instalment in the much-loved Bubblers series. Shining a spotlight on under-the-radar talent the world over, Bubblers returns with a line up as diverse and exciting as the record bag from which they came; a musical barometer to gauge the sound and stars of 2013.

We’re profiling the artists featured on the compilation, so we caught up with Troumaca, Brownswood’s latest signing, whose track ‘Layou’ features on the comp.

Listen to a teaser of the compilation below, and order from iTunes here or direct from Brownswood here.

How would you describe your music?
Sun drenched tropical blissdom.

Where do you draw your inspiration?
We draw inspiration from sincere work, be it music, art whatever.  There’s nothing better than knowing someone has bared their soul to make sense of the world.

Whom do you count amongst your most significant influences when it comes to production?
Timbaland, his early work still sounds vital, like its from another planet.  Lee Scratch Perry and all the old dub producers, you can hear how they used to mix live, those old tracks are beautifully organic.

What releases / gigs are out there or coming soon?
We are playing a Christmas Party at our second home The Hare & Hounds in Birmingham, looking forward to seeing all B-Town crew.  We are releasing an EP on Brownswood (buzzing!) very early next year!  Hold tight all the Bwood familaaaahhh.

Do you have a current DJ mix or any tracks that are available for free download right now that we could point folks to?
You can download our Gems EP from here. We’re gonna get a mix together over the next few weeks, then we are gonna throw a party to celebrate too. Then we’ll throw a party just to throw a party.

Where can folks go online to check out you and your music?
Website / Soundcloud

What are you going to do after this interview?
We’ll be eating jerk chicken and drinking coconut water.
