Brownswood Bubblers Six // Javelin

October 13, 2010

“Brownswood Bubblers provides a platform for unsung heroes and emerging talent from the Worldwide underground. The series distils the stream of exciting new artists that have become semi-permanent fixtures in Gilles’ playlists and DJ sets of late to create a suite of perfect bumps.”

Volume Five dropped with a hefty thump in March 2010, bursting at the seams with the finest flip-flop, sweet soul, gorgeous downtempo ditties and assorted exclusive Worldwide jams. Electric Wire Hustle, Ragen Fykes (with devonwho on the boards), Shafiq Husayn, Daru & Rena, TOKiMONSTA and Suzi Analogue collaborating as Analogue Monsta… gives you the merest taste of how we get down. Flava in ya ear.

Barely has the dust settled on this triumphant selection then and here we are with the sixth chapter in the Bubblers saga (just in time for Christmas). I’ll post up the tracklisting in full very soon, but in the meantime I’ll be tossing you a few titbits here and there. We’re super-stoked to be able to include one of the jewels from Javelin’s marvellous album ‘No Más’ – the adorably rickety, fuzz-laden ‘Intervales Theme’ – and we hit up the guys to find out a little more about how they get down.

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself please?
We are cousins from New England. We come from a long line of archaeological plunderers – this weekend we were looking at a Roman legionnaire’s belt buckle and a vial of sand from Ramses II’s tomb, both pillaged by one of ours.

How would you describe your music?
It has been described as “clam chowder strewn on the sidewalk on Canal Street.” We have different sonic palates that we name like Darryl Dawkins named his slam dunks. We’ve got “The Moss” and “The Windbreaker”
among others…

Where do you draw your inspiration for music-making?
Mainly from records and from friends.

Where can folks catch your live show right now?
We play shows most weekends. We’ve got Moog Fest coming up in October, and a short tour with Matt & Kim in November. Release-wise we have new stuff coming out this winter and in the New Year.

What about your DJ mix / podcast steez? In other words, where can we point people on the internet to go and grab some free goodies?
Absolutely! has several quality beat tapes and long mixes.
