Dalston Roof Park & Bootstrap Cinema Present:
A Brazilian Street Party w/ Gilles Peterson’s BAM BAM BAM: The Story of Sonzeira
Saturday 23rd May, 3pm – 11.30pm
Dalston Roof Park, 18 Ashwin Street, E8 3DL
Taking inspiration from the cultural, sights, sounds, and tastes of Rio de Janeiro, Bootyard (a project to reclaim a disused car park into a space for community and enterprise) will be transformed into a Brazilian street party for one night only.
Dalston Roof Park and The Bootyard, have teamed up with Brownswood Recordings to bring you a very special one off screening of Gilles Petersons’ first feature length documentary BAM BAM BAM: The story of Sonzeira
Following Peterson’s cultural exploration of Brazil, the film creates a colourful itinerary of people, places and events that passionately represents the real side of Brazilian culture and music: beyond the typical Football and Copacabana clichés. The result, ‘Bam Bam Bam: The Story of Sonzeira’, is a film that shows both the music and the cultural journey that Gilles took during his time in Rio de Janeiro.
Screened only a handful of times since it’s release, this is a rare opportunity to see one of the UK’s most respected taste makers go deep into a complex musical culture.
Completing the Brazilian party will be live music from one of London’s leading drum ensembles, a Capoeira workshop, dancers, and DJs inspired by the musical content of the film.
Food and drink is covered, with beer from Bootyard on-site brewers 40ft brewery, and food from food waste cafe Save the Date, the Duty Knuckle bakery, and local fusion food start up Cally Munchy. Bootyard on site bar will be serving up Caipirinhas, and other latino inspired cocktails to compliment.
This event is being delivered by an innovative events crew, as part of a 10-week creative employment workshop, run by A New Direction, and delivered by Bootstrap Campus.
