Esperanza Spalding

August 27, 2008

Esperanza Spalding is an American jazz bassist but also a beautiful singer. She graduated from Boston’s Berklee College of Music and right after got hired by that same College to become one of the youngest professors in the institution’s history. In 2006 she released her first album “Junjo” and (finally) this year she released “Esperanza”; a very nice album with many influences. Citing Ron Carter and Dave Holland as important influences on her music and Wayne Shorter as her hero, I was very excited to hear her music and voice. And what can I say, she never dissapointed me! Now, she’s coming to Europe in September, I don’t see UK dates yet (on her myspace) but she’s coming to my hometown on the 16th, Brussels, Belgium that is. So if you guys are around make sure to buy a ticket. See you there.
