Since meeting in 2011, Jesse Hackett of Elmore Judd / Owiny Sigoma Band and Nathan Jenkins aka Bullion have been writing and recording songs together as Blludd Relations. Brimming with party sausage pomp, craven funk, pudding bowl pop and jazz for logs, their self-titled debut album is music of the frabjous for the Reverend R. Soul.

‘Gilles is joined by US singer/songwriter Valerie June in session. Hailing from Memphis, Tennessee, Valerie’s sound encompasses folk, soul, gospel, and blues, and she performs tracks from her current album, ‘Pushin Against A Stone’ on the show, as well as an additional track, Twined And Twisted.

Gilles switches up the time signatures with another visit to the ‘Secret Waltz Club’ and the ‘Do Over’ features two tracks built from the Slum Village classic, ‘Fall in Love’. Plus, there’s new music from Thundercat, Mount Kimbie and Fatima alongside classics from Erykah Badu, Dizzy Gillespie, Joni Mitchell and Jaco Pastorius.

Thristian bPm (Boiler Room, NTS) begins his series of Global Roots nights at Village Underground by inviting Brownswood Recordings’ Owiny Sigoma Band to perform their live show, following their Europe-wide tour supporting Thom Yorke’s ‘Atoms For Peace’. Thristian will be manning the decks before and after Owiny Sigoma Band’s show.

One of the original architects of the Boiler Room, Thristian bPm has built a reputation as an instinctive and eclectic DJ, and as the Head of Music for Boiler Room, he’s responsible for the dynamic and eclectic line-ups that have become synonymous with Boiler Room sessions from around the world – from London to Los Angeles, and Berlin to Cape Town.

Owiny Sigoma Band, whose second album ‘Power Punch’ was released in March this year, align perfectly with Global Roots: two Kenyan musicians playing traditional West African instruments alongside four London based producers, twisting the African elements and adding contemporary electronic styles. ‘Power Punch’ has received widespread acclaim, with the Observer calling the album ‘Ingenious’ and Q Magazine claims ‘cuts across genres with winning flair’.

Gilles Peterson, Nicole Willis, Theo Parrish, DJ Spinna, Lefto, Zara McFarlane, Esperanzah (Pink Oculus), IET, Ge-ology, Wonder Allen Smith, Sevdaliza and Ntjam Rosie all feature and perform sentences from the love poem written by Wonder, in this nice video recently put together by BIRD in Rotterdam. The poem is written and drawn from the perspective of a jazz musician who has just arrived at its current destination (Rotterdam).

Rotterdam and jazz are inseparable. Jazz Club BIRD is an exponent of this rich musical tradition and represents a new chapter in the Rotterdam music scene.

The line up is looking hot and the sunshine is calling us! Due to last years success at the St Christ light house stage, crossing the boundaries between a live stage and alfresco club venue; all music from Thursday to Sunday will be hosted at St Christ with it’s amazing back drop. This means that the Théâtre de la Mer  becomes the evening venu from Monday – Wednesday before handing over to St Christ for the rest of the week. Make sure you come for the whole week!
