Gilles Peterson // Significant Album // #132

November 7, 2016

We’re continuing the countdown of the albums that have shaped Gilles Peterson so far. The album this week is Light as a Feather by Azymuth.

The album was released in 1979 and features lyrics from Alex Malheiros, Ivan Conti and the late José Roberto Bertrami from jazz-fusion outfit Azymuth, as well as Stanley Clarke, Flora Purim and Toninho Horta. The Brazilian trio delivers a jazz-infused rhythmic album that doesn’t exclude an even wider range of sonoric and at times tropical and moody landscapes. Their work never fails to agglomerate a beautifully crafted collection of ingenious tracks that creates a persistent and distinctive sound which they can call their own.
