Gilles Peterson // Significant Album // #145

June 10, 2016

We’re continuing the countdown of the albums that have shaped Gilles Peterson so far, we’ve decided to countdown from 200! The album this weeks is Replicas by Tubeway Army.

Released in 1979 on Beggars Banquet, the band was fronted by Gary Numan with Jess Lidyard on the drums and Paul Gardiner on electric bass. This sci-fi set in a not-too-distant future , was quite an unimaginable sound. Taking inspiration from Philip K. Dick, this dystopian synth infused, punk rock album captures a special time during the mid-late 70′s, where musicians like David Bowie, Human League and Ultravox had the stage.
