Gilles Peterson // Worldwide Awards 2015 // More Artists Added
December 8, 2014
Gilles Peterson’s annual celebration of the finest talent emerging from the Worldwide underground will be returning for its 10th anniversary on Saturday 17th January 2015.
The Worldwide Awards are a reflection of the vast array of music Gilles Peterson showcases from across the globe via his 6 Music & internationally syndicated shows.
The awards will house a string of very special live performances, DJ sets and one-off collaborations from both new and heritage artists championed by Gilles throughout the year. Hosted and curated by Gilles himself, the event is an 8-hour music extravaganza, taking place at KOKO Camden, without doubt one of London’s most atmospheric spots.
A classically trained vocal veteran, Bilal released his debut album 1st Born Second in 2001, which boasted the popular single “Soul Sista.” The follow-up, Love for Sale (2006), was shelved but leaked entirely online yet was well received to fans and music critics and has become an underground classic. In the following years, Bilal has collaborated and performed with some of the industry’s most prominent artists including, Beyonce Common, Jay-Z, Erykah Badu, Robert Glasper, Boney James, Musiq and The Roots among others. He also covered Radiohead’s “High & Dry” for the 2006 Radiohead tribute, Exit Music: Songs With Radio Heads. Bilal also appears in Dave Chappelle’s Block Party.
Initially heralded as a new voice in jazz, albeit jazz “d’autres univers”, other-worldly, so to speak. De Biasio stimulates peoples imaginations, with her haunting voice and cinematic eloquence.
Adrian Younge is the next generation of soul music. A self-taught musician and recording engineer who has dedicated his life to the study of classic soul music.
