Worldwide Premiere // Tom Blip // Shekere
July 30, 2015
Armed with a university grant and a couple tracks from a friend, Tom Blip took a bold step into the unknown after graduating and started a label – Blip Discs. With new imprints popping up left right and centre, this pioneering spirit isn’t such a rare occurrence these days, but managing to actual make a visible impact on your first attempt certainly is. For that, Tom and the Blip Discs family should be applauded.
One of those two tracks from Tom’s friend, O’Flynn, turned out to be ‘Tyrion‘ and it went on to become one of Four Tet’s go-to tracks earlier this year, getting plays during his (in)famous b2b with Skrillex, much lauded recent Boiler Room and Rinse FM show. Other regular support also came from Bradley Zero and Bonobo. The flipside on Blip001 was the anthemic ’Desmond’s Empire‘, a certified GP All Winner and guaranteed dancefloor rejuvenator whenever it’s played.
Quick to follow-up on that success, Tom takes the reigns for Blip002 and the EP has already received plenty of support in high places. After Boiler Room premiered the a-side, here’s the first full play of ‘Shekere’, another cut of African-influenced rhythms, with percussion once again at its core. May all university grants be put to good use like this!
Wrong Guanco / Shekere is out 17th August and available to pre-order from the Blip Discs Bandcamp. O’Flynn – Tyrion / Desmond’s Empire has just been repressed, which you can also grab from said Bandcamp.
