Happy New Year everyone…

I spent NYE at home doing meccano, lego and watching back episodes of James May’s toy stories with my kids… thought I’d do it different… but I was drinking a 1978 Haut Medoc.

Have to say that at around 12.15, after having watched the fireworks go off on BBC 1 I had a pang to walk down to the bPm’s party in Dalston but it passed as I stood watching Florence and the Machine on Jules Holland. She’s terrific, one of my favourite ‘non WW acts’ of the year – she also looks the spitting image of my agent Naomi at Elastic who’s probably glad not to be confused with the reddish one from Girls Aloud anymore…

So the year and decade are done as we prepare for another 12 months…I’ve got to clear out Brownswood this month and load up a new spot with my vinyl and stuff… it’s gonna be long and possibly a little sad but I’ll definitely be having a massive parting session with all the people who’ve worked and lived there over the years – thats why I’ve kept most of this month off to concentrate on the move and dive in for a party whenever the gates open up… I’ll try and get another couple of podcasts done before the keys are exchanged… should do Floating Points and Dom Servini and a couple more of those Joel’s Joints that go down quite well… Happy New Year Joel btw!

And just in case you were wondering – the label is well and truly alive and simply in office transition – loads of releases coming up like the Jose James album, Bubblers 5, Brownswood Electric, Elan Mehler’s amazing Half Seas Over project plus a bunch more Cuban things… then of course it’s the WW Awards 2010 – already practically sold out so watch out before you regret not being there – still got a couple more names to add to the bill…

I’m also in the process of sorting out the line-up for the 5th edition of my WW festival in Sete this summer – I’ve made sure we only clash with the last weekend of the World Cup so we can play the final on the beach during the Sunday finale – imagine a France vs. England final?!!

I’m also aware that the festival could get a little too commercial and want to really focus on the programming … and no repeats… the other big thing for me in 2010 is touring with Roberto Fonseca in the summer – doing the atmos/DJ thing on stage and bringing the Havana Cultura vibe to the festivals

I’m being really selective on gigs this year so will probably be playing out less than the last few years… although I am really looking forward to going to new places like Antigua, Martinique, Ethiopia and Hawaii this year… in fact going to brand new spots like Bangladesh and Kazakhstan were the highlight of my last 12 months…the newness factor always works in my book… of which there’s talk by the way… last year ended really well in fact – I thought the radio show got stronger as the year wore on – my new producer Alex Kenning’s beginning to get the hang of me now! The Mos Def feature was really good and bringing in live guests at 3 in the morning gives the show good energy… watch out for Subtrkt and Thom Yorke in January… my Cuba doc also gets aired this Monday 4th at 9pm… the snow and Eurotunnel disaster had me flying by private plane (not jet believe me) for my xmas bash in Paris…the journey being notable by the fact that Earl Zinger suddenly felt ill when sitting in the back of creaking aeroplane on the runway at Biggin Hill, the result being a solo show in Belle Villoise which I absolutely loved – thanks to all – great energy…and a huge surprise was playing in Annecy on the 27th where Franck and Manu have got a great little scene bubbling that reminds me of the early days of Truby’s Rootdown – a great end to the year…
