LV Announce Live Show At St. Pancras Old Church
30th October 2015
Globetrotting production duo LV, fresh from the release of new LP ‘Ancient Mechanisms’ on Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood imprint, come to perform at the St. Pancras Old Church on the 30th October. The record traces a train of thought sparked by a live session with Armenian pianist Tigran Hamasyan back in 2012: two and a half years down the line and a trip to Belgium later, the finished record is as much about the workings of musical artefacts as it is about putting the virtuoso pianist into new contexts.
The pair, made up of Simon Williams and Will Horrocks, found the insides and mechanisms (hint) of the instruments they were working with to be of increasing interest as the project developed. They found a discarded, portable piano in the former’s new flat and spent hours painstakingly recording its notes, creaks and noises. The exploration of what lay inside the instruments in front of them is the thread holding the unique record together: strands ranging from foreign surroundings to the darker corners of London’s club lineage are channelled into exploring that idea.
Performing the material from the record for the first time, the antiquated surroundings of the church are the ideal place for them to showcase material from an album that’s all about excavating the past.
Praise for Ancient Mechanisms:
“Ancient Mechanisms is yet another exquisite example of their uncompromising ownership of their art, and of their unfettered curiosity.” The Fader
“Simon Williams and Will Horrocks’ music takes delicate jazz and soul sounds, flirts with UK dance and bass rhythms and comes out with something truly breathtaking.” i-D
“Experimentation and collaboration is in LV’s DNA.” The Ransom Note
