My Town // Clea Herlöfsson Presents Stockholm

January 14, 2013

“My Town” is a brand new feature wherein friends and family from around the world give us the lowdown on their home town – favourite bars, restaurants, record shops and more. Forget Time Out – this is the only city guide you need.

Next up, Brownswood Familia Clea takes us through Stockholm.

Party

A pleasant Stockholm night starts off in the bar of a former sausage factory, now named Marie Leveau. When you get tired of the super trendy drinks, you could simply move down a floor and have slushies in plastic glasses while you’re enjoying some underground bassy music. The sweat is literary dripping from the ceiling so if you feel like cooling off you should head farer south to the winter club Under Bron which is basically a shed under a huge concrete bridge. There you have to be enough decadent and dedicated to pass through the pointer with the bowler hat. This Deep House mecca is full of very laid back hipsters and good music. A bit chilly though, at least Pearson Sound seemed to think so when he was djing dressed in a tigthly buttoned jacket and a whoolen scarf last winter. In the summer this place is transformed to a big outdoor club with daytime house sessions, ping pong and hot dogs.

If the mood is more jazzy, you should hang out in the centre of the city at the very grand live bar at Scandic Grand Central. After some excellent Sitting Bulldog-beer, cross the street and go to Fasching, it is well worth a visit if you’re in to big jazz bands and soul nights. A good way to end the night is at Busta Rhymes favourite place; the party palace of ancient lineage – Berns (including a techno basement for the late ones..)

Chill out

In the summer, the frost-bitten swedes go crazy and everything is happening in the streets and parks. The best place to hang out is near the water. And, fortunately there is water everywhere. You don’t chill out in pubs over here, you have a coffee and a kanelbulle instead. Best places for that are Saturnus and Ilcaffé.

Eat / Drink

There is basically only one word you need to keep in mind and that is meatballs. Pelikan has the best ones, Tranan is another well made choice for good balls.

Rolfs Kök is a lovely little restaurant and at Pastisse you’ll find the finest oysters.

Cold cocktails are served in pinapple halves at Sjuan, accompanied by the fantastic view from its location on the top terrace floor of the hotel Sjöfartshotellet.

Where is the best place to buy music?

New stuff: Fade

Old stuff: Snickars Records

What’s the local expression/saying?

There’s no bad weather, only bad clothing.

Sum up your town in three words…

House. Water. Girls.

What’s the best local delicacy/street food/snack?

Sourdough bread with tube-caviar.

Who is the best local talent in your area?

Baba Stiltz. He is still in his teens but is already a promising sqwee/juke/crazy music maker, who I recommend you to keep your eyes on in the future.
