NYC/LDN: Dyme-A-Duzin, Nu Brand, Elijah & Skilliam + more

May 31, 2011

NYC/LDN is back, bringing a little New York swag to London nightlife. After taking a three-year hiatus from the last session in 2008 – which debut Theophilus London to the UK – this daring new music club night emerges to reconnect the paces of both cities in the quest of “who’s got next”? Curated by the lovely Peggy Jean Louis at the atmospheric KOKO in Camden, it will most definitely be an energetic night merging  musical subcultures of both cities.  Now a little about the line up…

Dyme-A-Duzin refuses to follow anybody’s standards. This charismatic 18-year old mc is today’s 360 hip-hop artist – rapper, singer, songwriter, video producer, marketer, distributor and more. Dymez overall confidence, style and demeanor illuminate his talents where there is no dismissing his pop star potential. Loaded with online takeaways, his music videos are more like web-episodes that his fans can chronicle his rise to fame. The Brooklyn boy will be flying over to perform for us live and yes its going to be off the chain!

You could be deaf, blind or even be a vegetable on a wheel chair and still feel Nu Brand‘s presence in a room. Yes sir! They’r enthusiastic, swagged out and represent a new wave of London’s sound coined as chronic grime. They approach music by slowing down the bpms and releasing some 2-step tension to allow their hooks to flow and transcend. Imagine N.E.R.D making a slow jam for Bashy. It’s mary jane all night long. Check music video Spellbound which we’ve featured in Yeti archive.

Chesca and Elliott Yorke are Royalty, a fresh pair releasing via fledging label Five Easy Pieces, but their presence on the funk-boogie scene goes back to the mid noughties and prior that Chesca’s rolled deep with LA’s Low End Theory crew, releasing via Alpha Pup. The London based duo is on a modern electro boogie journey, fiddling with analogue synths to deliver futuristic funk beats with heavy retro disco flavor.  Be prepared for a live set full of experimental endeavours.

Aside from remarkable sets from the above, their will be a handfull of groovy tunes specially sleected by Butterz label head Ellijah & Skilliam doing a b2b set with SwindleWork It DJs the bPM (Boiler Room) and Lixo (Get Me!). NYC/LDN feels so damn good to be back!
