On Blackheath

September 16, 2014

Last weekend we took to south east London for On Blackheath, the new food and music festival launched this year. GP hosted the Worldwide stage, showcasing a range of talents on Brownswood and part of the wider Worldwide Family. These acts included Ibibio Sound MachineAnushka, Hiatus Kaiyote, Swindle, Zara McFarlane, BADBADNOTGOOD and a DJ set from Gilles closing off the night.

Ibibio Sound Machine got the party started with a tremendously funky set. Anushka wowed the crowd with soulful and smooth vocals, and bass with a vibration that made our thoughts wobble. Hiatus Kaiyote’s groove and manic time signatures impressed us, as usual. Swindle’s energy and the sheer intensity of his production coupled with the live brass section and guest Terri Walker was powerful and Zara McFarlane’s songstress abilities were appreciated by all. BADBADNOTGOOD delivered a thrilling set, and the night’s proceedings were rounded up as Gilles took the crowd on an exciting audio journey. DJs Thris Tian, Bradley Zero and Heather Wall supported the live acts with a variety of sets perfect for the sunny day.

The Mainstage saw acts from the likes of Aloe Blacc, Grace Jones and Massive Attack, while Sunday’s festival showcased much rockier sounds.

Zara & MosesAnd it wasn’t just all about the music, there were food tents where chef Gizzi Erskine’s ‘Chef’s Club’ demonstrated a variety of dishes.

On Blackheath, we salute you!
