Roller Trio – Double Whammy // Nominated for Mercury and MOBO

September 21, 2012

Described as the ‘new sound of UK Jazz’ Roller Trio is the latest band to come from Leeds rich music scene. Drummer Luke Reddin-Williams, guitarist Luke Wynter and tenor saxophonist and electronics James Mainwaring met at Leeds College of Music and won the Peter Whittingham Jazz Award back in 2011, not bad for a band that have only been together for little over a year.

Their album was released on F-IRE  in August and has since been nominated for a Mercury Album of the Year award and for the best Jazz act 2012 MOBO awards.

For a limited time only their album is avaliable to listen to here

Personal favourites include R-O-R and A Dark Place To Think. Back in February Gilles and Jez Nelson picked the band to perform at the BBC Introducing Manchester Jazz Festival  2012. Gilles described them as “Dark, menacing, bass heavy – the new sound of UK jazzzzzzz!”
