The second single from Zara McFarlane’s highly acclaimed second album ‘If You Knew Her’, ‘Open heart’, is released digitally on the 28th April. In this track, that opens the album, Zara has crafted a beautiful and deeply personal track about love lost with lyrics that evoke both sadness and redemption. Accompanying Zara’s voice is the unique hang drum, played by virtuoso musician Manu Delago. ‘Open Heart’ instantly grabs the listener with its sparse arrangement and hypnotic chorus.
Flipping the script, Swindle (Deep Medi Musik) takes ‘Open Heart’ to new directions, adding his trademark sound that has seen him transcend the worlds of grime & dubstep with his jazz inflected keys, sub-heavy riddims and raw percussion.
Brownswood’s Diggs Duke adds his own twist to ‘Open Heart’ through his deft use of keys and double bass. Having released his debut album ‘Offering for Anxious’ in December last year to critical acclaim, Diggs Duke is a man on the rise. His musicianship unquestionable, the 28 year old from Washington DC deftly rearranges the original, adding Rhodes and double bass licks to meditative effect.
Finally up and comer Alex Session brings elements with house, garage and a myriad of UK bass and urban flavours – his fusion of the past and the present is winning him plaudits from the likes of Radio 1 and 1Xtra lynchpins Annie Mac and Mistajam.
