An Introduction to Neneh Cherry
January 14, 2013
2012 saw the return of Neneh Cherry. Her work with voguish jazz trio The Thing really felt like a return to her home territory. Neneh’s always given the jazz sensibility (inherited from her stepfather Don) a more contemporary vibe, and we’re looking forward to having her perform at the Worldwide Awards this weekend.
Throughout a busy, award-winning, 25-year career, Neneh has worked on loads of musical projects in Europe, North America and Africa. Born in Stockholm and raised between London and New York, Neneh Cherry lived in Bristol through trip hop’s fertile, early years, collaborating with Massive Attack, Geoff Barrow and Tricky. Neneh has since lived in cities around the world scoring chart success whilst retaining underground credibility.
At the Worldwide Awards we’re excited to have Neneh performing alongside RocketNumberNine – a British duo whose music allow jazz to freely bleed into their electronics. Given Neneh’s collaborative history, expect this to be one of the night’s many highlights.
GP especially digs Neneh’s latest album alongside ‘Neneh Cherry & The Thing’ and has picked his choice cuts to share. Their reworking of a Madvillian’s ‘Accordion’ really captures Neneh’s spirit; bridging across her musical heritage.
