Brownswood Bubblers Five // Shuanise

February 17, 2010

With the fifth chapter in our Bubblers series dropping on 8th March 2010, we’re introducing some of the artists who feature on BB5 (that’s Brownswood Bubblers, not Big Brother). So far we’ve profiled Ron Basejam and Electric Wire Hustle, but now we’d like to present Shuanise whom, aided and abetted by beat conductor Duktus, contributes a dope, slam-style ditty entitled ‘Wide Eyes’ which is exclusive to Bubblers Five.

Hey Shuanise. Can you tell us a little bit about yourself please?
My name is Shuanise – an artist on Eglo Records, I was born in Texas and moved to North London as a child. London is where I was brought up & where my musical bones developed. I like to write and play with sounds and create patterns with vocals.

How would you describe your music?
Organized and sometimes disorganized sounds of everything I love to listen to and feel inspired by.

And from where do you draw your inspiration to create?
Musically – jazz, Afrobeat, hip-hop, folk, soul, big drums and Prince. And in general terms: Yahweh and everyday happenings… life’s tests.

What Shuanise releases are out in the stores then?
Guest vocals on Portformat’s ‘The Repeat Factor’ LP on Tokyo Dawn Records – out now – check it!
Voice Of Reason EP on Up My Alley – out now.
Kingdom 7″ on Eglo Records – out now.

What about gigs?
20th February at Minnemeers, Gent, Belgium with big homie Lefto plus Floating Points, Fatima, Shuanise, Funkineven, Alex Nut, DJ Exile, Fashawn and Blu! DAMN! What a line-up!
Also, 19th March in Bristol.

Where are the best spots online where folks can check out you and your music?
