Brownswood electr*c’s Frederic Robinson featured on Satellite Voices

June 14, 2011

If, like me, you used to love drum and bass through the 90s as artists like Photek, Peshay, J Majik, Ed Rush, Optical, Dillinja and a whole raft of other cats pushed the envelope and experimented to their heart’s content… then a producer like Frederic Robinson (alongside the likes of dBridge, Instra:mental, ASC, Alix Perez etc.) is a real breath of fresh air. In recent years the genre seems to have reinvigorated and reinvented itself via these artists who simultaneously hark back to that golden era of breakbeat science and push the sound forwards. We nodded to these exciting developments via Rockwell’s ‘Underpass’ on the first Brownswood electr*c album and this time around we feature two awesome drum & bass-ish cuts from Stray – who flips the Chicago footwork sound in his own inimitable, crushing style – and at the other end of the scale Frederic Robinson – a young producer from Germany who imbues incredible warmth via chattering breaks, deep dubbed vocals and airy synths. At the tender age of 19, he is certainly one to watch for the future, a sentiment reinforced by Satellite Voices (Dazed & Confused’s new global culture portal) who have just published an interview with the “teenage production prodigy” on their awesome new website.

Brownswood electr*c 2 is released on 27th June on CD / Digital alongside two special 12″ samplers.
