Brownswood in Paris // Gilles' Residency and Mala in Cuba Listening Party
June 25, 2012
Last weekend the Brownswood crew descended on Paris with Gilles to check out the second instalment in his residency at La Bellevelloise. The club was packed out early with a receptive Parisian crowd, and Gilles connected the dots and span the genres for a solid 5 hours. Brownswood (milky) house-garage DJ supremo Ollie Rant jumped ‘pon the decks too for a brief, but killer set.
On Monday we headed to beautiful Montmartre for the first listening party of the ‘Mala in Cuba’ album. Tensions were running high as we soon learned that the choice of venue for the session had no sub woofer whatsoever! Being sub-oriented music, it looked like we would have to call off the party, rather than do the music the injustice of being heard on below par speakers. Using our collective nous, we tracked down a sound system on the other side of town, while stalling the patient journalists, and managed to pull it together at the last minute. Earlier tension dissipated as mojitos flowed and the evening turned into a stellar session. Big ups to Mala and all who made it down!
