Worldwide Premiere // Reginald Omas Mamode IV – In This Case (Get Over Yourself)
October 29, 2015
“Spread some love. Regard all life on Earth and the universe as home and family. Get over ourselves people. We are the universe.”
Reginald Omas Mamode IV is a man of simple pleasures: soul sounds, peoples and stories, brothers, friends and family. It’s a philosophy that rubs off on his music, not just in his lyrics but in his production techniques that is notable by its lack of computers. After a debut release for Marcel Vogel’s Amsterdam-based Intimate Friends imprint, he returns to familiar territory with a new EP on Five Easy Pieces.
Inspired by warm 70s sounds, rhodes keys, live percussion and drum machines are all fed through an old 1983 analog mixer to give that lo-fi, imperfect sound that you can hear across the entire 22a cohort (Mo Kolours, Henry Wu, Al Dobson Jr, Tenderlonious and Jeen Bassa). Leading out the new EP, ‘In This Case’ typifies the simplicity of a ROM production. A swirling staccato beat hypnotises the ears, while Reggie’s own vocals offer a soothing contrast alongside wandering rhodes chords and playful bass line.
