Havana Cultura presents The Gilles Peterson Remix Contest

April 6, 2011

Gilles’s adventures in Cuba began in 2009 when he visited Havana to record at Egrem Studios with Roberto Fonseca and an amazing crew of Cuban vocalists and musicians spanning the full Worldwide spectrum from jazz to reggaeton. The results were documented on ‘Havana Cultura: New Cuba Sound’ and subsequently reworked for the club by Louie Vega, MJ Cole, Seiji, 4hero et al. on the ‘Havana Cultura: Remixed’ album.

Now Havana Cultura are offering you the chance to flip a couple of jams from the Egrem sessions…

The rules are simple: just visit the Havana Club Facebook page and become a fan. From there you can download the stems (separate tracks) of either ‘Arroz Con Pollo’ or ‘La Revolucion del Cuerpo’. Then you’ll have 4 weeks (April 1 to April 29) to craft the most innovative, interesting and dance-worthy remix possible. Finally, upload your remix to the GP Remix Contest Soundcloud dropbox on Havana Club Facebook fan page. Results will be released weekly via the Facebook feed.

Each week for one month Gilles Peterson will judge the submitted remixes. After choosing its favorites, the 10 final favorite tracks will be featured on a Havana Cultura online compilation album. Best of all, the grand prize winner will win a trip for two to Havana, Cuba and tickets to the Rotilla Festival for Electronic Music!
