Worldwide Awards 2014 // Artist Focus // Christian Rich
January 13, 2014
Ahead of the ninth instalment in the annual Worldwide Awards at Koko, we will be shedding light on the artists performing through a series of questions. Here we have for you, Christian Rich.
Can you tell us a little bit about yourself please. Who are you, where are you from etc.?
Christian Rich is a twin duo music production and dj team from Chicago currently with offices in Los Angeles. The members are Taiwo Hassan and Kehinde Hassan. We produced 4 top 10 Billboard records including 4 records on Earl Sweatshirt’s album Doris (“Chum“, “Centurion“, “Knight“, “Molasses“). We also produced “Crawl” for Childish Gambino, “Sparks Will Fly” for J Cole and did part of the intro for Drake’s song “Pound Cake” feat. Jay Z.
As Christian Rich we also own a label called Good Luck Chuck under Sony/Red which focuses on single deals with new artist and producers. We are Creative Directors at Redbull Soundselect. We help Redbull and its artist create great music as we do for the record labels.
How would you describe your music?
Our music is experimental, avant- garde sounds. We like to design with our music. We like mixing Jazz ideas with more contemporary sounds.
Whom do you count amongst your most significant influences when it comes to production?
We have a lot of influences including The Beatles, David Axelrod, The Neptunes, Timbaland, Bjork and a few others.
If you could give a musical award of the year, what would it be and for whom?
This is cliche but I would give us (Christian Rich) an award for BreakOut producers of year.
Do you have a current DJ mix or any tracks that are available for free download right now that we could point folks to?
Yes, our current mix for LFTF Mix is up on Soundcloud for free download here: https://soundcloud.com/christianrich/christian-richs-lftf-mix-33
