Worldwide Awards 2015 Announcement

September 29, 2014

Gilles Peterson’s annual celebration of the finest talent emerging from the Worldwide underground will be returning for its 10th anniversary on Saturday 17th January 2015. The Worldwide Awards are a reflection of the vast array of music Gilles Peterson showcases from across the globe via his 6 Music internationally syndicated shows. The awards will house a string of very special live performances, DJ sets and one-off collaborations from both new and heritage artists championed by Gilles throughout the year. Hosted and curated by Gilles himself, the event is an 8-hour music extravaganza, taking place at KOKO Camden, without doubt one of London’s most atmospheric spots.

Winners from the 2014 Worldwide Awards ranged across a marvelous mixture of styles and concepts, resonating well with what the Worldwide awards are about, as Gilles puts it; “They were set up to celebrate a side of the music scene that often gets ignored.” Winners included Lone, JonWayne, Ady Suleiman, Omar, Mount Kimbie & King Krule, Jimi Tenor and the Young Turks record label.

Last year’s show was streamed live across the world via and The Guardian’s website, ensuring that those who weren’t able to get tickets could enjoy the eclectic variety of DJ sets and live onstage collaborations from home.

Previous acts at the Worldwide Awards include; Marcos Valle, Neneh Cherry & Rocketnumbernine, Mala in Cuba, James Blake, Four Tet, Valerie June, Flying Lotus, Steve Reid, Bugz in The Attic…
