Worldwide Festival 2013 // Gilles P looks back…
July 15, 2013
Wow… what a week in Sète… I didn’t think we could outdo last year but… it happened!
From the opening night with Four Tet and Floating Points playing back to back… to the very last chords of ‘Mirror Maru’ by Cashmere Cat. Just so sad that I didn’t get to show you my new visuals and end with the sunrise! To clear that up, the police (who’d been particularly safe the previous 7 nights) had simply had enough!
Possibly overstretching the 5am close on Saturday to 5.30am tipped the scales… we’ll never really know – they were probably just knackered and wanted an early night! Not a lot happens in Sète during the year.
That aside, I thought all the stages worked really well. It doesn’t get a lot better does it? My main aim with this festival was to invite my friends to play to the finest crowd on the finest sound systems. I think that goal has been achieved… and everyone delivered from Francois K’s sublime beach selection to the decadent beauty of Noze. To receive Marcos Valle was a joy for me. He’s played everywhere but will have magical memories of the Worldwide Festival 2013. Extra big ups to Ivan (WF) for going the extra mile (and more!) to get Omar Souleyman onto our stage on Sunday night after he was refused entry to France for his scheduled appearance on the Thursday night.
Crowd wise I couldn’t have dreamed of better… You made the party what it was – a heartwarming reunion of like-minded folk from around the world. We had producers from Siberia to old school heads from Hanoi! There was one key WF family member who couldn’t make it this year though – my good friend Remy aka DJ RKK – who was unable to attend due to ill health. Get well soon brother!
My only worry is… how can we maintain in 2014?
We will though, ‘cos there simply isn’t anything like the Worldwide in Sète!
