WORLDWIDE PREMIERE // TALL BLACK GUY – COME WITH ME AND FLY
September 14, 2016
Let’s Take A Trip is an indulgent musical experience and new album from Detroit native Tall Black Guy. The collection of tunes build upon the rough and gritty sounds of Detroit hip hop, reflective of its industrial history. Neo-soul comes to mind, as the LP shares a similar feel to Zo! and Phonte, with features from vocalists like Mario Sweet and Moonchild. It is to be expected from Tall Black Guy, as he is well known for both his hip-hop and house productions, which have a soulful, broken beat energy to them.
The track we’re premiering, ‘Come With Me And Fly’, is an alluring hip-hop number, featuring Yusef Rumperfield manipulates chopped vocal samples that blend with the enchanting rhythm of the drum roll. Elsewhere the album is jam-packed with fine production and intelligent design. ‘Is There More To Life?’, featuring Diggs Duke, is a soulful solution to an existential crisis. The enchanting piano chords are reminiscent of rare groove funk and what you might find listening to old cassettes of pirate radio or crate digging. ‘Rocking From Beginning To End’ has a more jazzy feel, while ‘One Device, One Method, One Thing’ pays homage to Detroit, sharing a similar drum style to the blueprint designer, J Dilla.
Let’s Take A Trip is out will be released on First Word Records, which you can pre-order on Bandcamp. First single ‘I Will Never Know’ feat. Moonchild from the release is also available from Bandcamp. Catch the album launch party in London on October 14th at Kamio.
